At Emmaus we’re not just about helping the community; we want to help the environment too.
Our work is based around reclaiming, refurbishing and selling donated goods. The shops not only help to create a self-sustaining community, but also have a major impact on the environment by saving re-usable items, which would otherwise end up in landfill or incinerators.

From October to December 2010, our vans collected 85 tonnes of donated goods and Emmaus Greenwich was able to refurbish and re-use around 80%. From January to March this year we have seen an increase of collections and we’ve picked up 118 tonnes. On average, we are able to save 30 tonnes per month from going to landfill which is approximately 360 tonnes a year!
